Day 2 : Paramaribo-City Tour (half day)

Paramaribo, the capital city of Suriname, has been placed on the UNESCO “World Heritage” list of historical monuments since 2002. We will take you on a guided tour by bus along the most prominent historic locations in the city center at which you will be impressed by the outstanding (wooden) architecture. You will also visit Fort Zeelandia, Palmentuin (Palm Garden), the Waterkant and the Central Market.

Day 3 : Commewijne Plantation Tour (Full day)

Commewijne is located on the Commewijne river, directly opposite Paramaribo city. The tour will take you along former colonial plantations of which most are abandoned and no longer active. A visit to the open-air museum at Nieuw Amsterdam and Marienburg, the oldest former sugar plantation in Suriname, where you can still see the ruins of the factory and the plantation houses of more than 100 years old. The surroundings will offer you a view on how the plantation industry transformed itself in modern times. The river, which takes in a dominant place in Commewijne, provides a way of earning a living to many fishermen in the area. With the boat you will also visit a completely renovated Plantation: Frederiksdorp. A guided tour on the premises of this plantation brings you back in time.

Day 5 :Handicraft/Cola Creek

The tour departs from Paramaribo via the highway leading to the international “Johan Adolf Pengel” airport, at a distance of 50 km from Paramaribo. You will visit a camp where you will witness how handicraft is made by the Maroons in the traditional manner as well as an Amerindian pottery. Here, you also have the opportunity to buy arts & crafts. The tour continues to recreation resort Cola Creek where you have the opportunity to swim and relax in the refreshing water. The leaves falling in the water give the creek its dark color which looks like that of the Coca Cola drink, hence the name Cola Creek. Included during the tour: transportation by bus, lunch and snacks, drinks (non-alcoholic), Dutch and English speaking tour guide.
