Hotel Los Frailes, a former 17th century monastery is ideal as an unusual stopover point en route from Merida to Los Llanos. The hotel is situated on the edge of an Andean valley at 3,000 metres surrounded by cobalt-blue lakes and scenic countryside, offering a number of interesting walking trails. The 44 rooms are basic with small en suite bathroom and heaters are also provided. The restaurant serves an international menu and there is an English style pub. Horse-riding is available in the high season. It is approximately 6.5 hours by car from Hotel Los Frailes to reach Hato Cedral in Los Llanos.
